Our Story

Hi. My name is Vadim and I'm the creator of the Lens Loop.

The Original Home-made Lens Loop

Two years ago, I needed a new camera strap for a week-long backpacking trip to Yosemite National Park. Beyond the fact that every camera strap I could find was ludicrously priced, the poorly designed, unattractive, and Asian-made, none could be used while wearing a backpack strap.

So I decided to make my own.

I cut seatbelt webbing from an old Chevy and started experimenting with the various hardware options I could piece together from hardware stores and the backpacks and messenger bags I had around the house.

After a considerable amount of trial-and-error, I had a comfortable, durable, and elegant camera strap that was effortless to wear, adjust, and store. I thought I was done making camera straps, but so many friends (including owners of commercial camera slings) asked for their own copies that I decided to have them manufactured as a commercial product.

I stuck with my original idea of simplicity, durability, and elegance.

I painstakingly sourced only the best steel hardware, top-quality webbing reclaimed from the US auto industry, and had everything stitched together and assembled right here in the United States at a factory that makes custom strapping for customers ranging from NASA to NASCAR.

It took several months of sampling, testing, and evaluating to find the right partners and hardware, but the result was well worth the effort.

In terms of value, design, craftsmanship, and comfort, the Lens Loop is orders of magnitude better than any other commercially-made camera strap, and is proudly manufactured right here in the USA.

I was a recent law school graduate and had just started my patent law practice, and could not have launched the Lens Loop on my own.

So I turned to the online photographic community for help. In July of 2011, I launched a Kickstarter campaign in which I sold discounted pre-orders of the Lens Loop to fund our first production run.

The response was overwhelmingly positive and we raised 3 times more than we needed to start production. 450 photographers from 16 different countries pre-ordered Lens Loops and help make a better camera strap a reality!

In the course of the year since our Kickstarter campaign, supply issues have forced us to use new rather than reclaimed seatbelt webbing and we have redesigned and improved our camera connector (the Mikey) to be more secure and durable.
As we grow, the original idea of a comfortable, durable, and elegant camera strap that's made in the USA and sold at a fair price has and will continue to define our company and its products.
Thanks your support and happy shooting!
